In-Depth FAQs for Long-Cable Probe Applications
- Why does the 9-meter probe have a higher specified resistance (9.87Ω)? The DC resistance increases with cable length due to the longer internal conductor. This value is normal for a 9m integral cable and the monitoring system is designed to accommodate this range.
- What are the trade-offs of using a probe with such a long integral cable? The primary trade-off is increased system capacitance, which can limit the high-frequency response of the measurement. This makes it ideal for monitoring lower-speed machinery or where long cable runs are unavoidable.
- Can I cut or shorten the 9.0-meter cable if my application doesn't require all that length? We strongly advise against cutting or modifying the factory-integrated cable. Doing so will void the warranty and likely damage the probe's internal seals. Coil and secure the excess cable instead.
- How should I handle and store the excess cable length during installation? Form the excess cable into large-diameter loops (at least 8 inches/200mm) and secure them with cable ties. Avoid sharp bends, kinks, or tight coils that could damage the cable's internal shield or conductors.
- Is this probe suitable for very high-speed machinery like turbines or compressors? For very high-speed applications (e.g., above 10,000 RPM), consult the frequency response graphs in the manual. The long cable's capacitance may attenuate very high-frequency signals, making a system with a shorter total cable length more appropriate.
