Installation and Wiring
Enclosure Requirements
- Installation Location: The IC695CHS007 must be installed in an enclosure that provides a minimum protection level of NEMA/UL Type 1 or IEC60529 IP20. This is necessary to protect live electrical parts from being accessible.
- Hazardous Areas: Suitable for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D hazardous locations. The enclosure must be certified to EN60079-15 for use in Zone 2, Group IIC and rated IP54.
Backplane Terminals and Connectors
- TB1 Input Terminals: TB1 terminals 7 and 8 are used for connecting an optional external source of isolated +24VDC, required for some IC693 and IC694 modules. Terminals 1 through 6 are not used.
- Slot 0: Reserved exclusively for the IC695 Power Supply.
- Slots 1-5: Support both PCI-based and serial backplane modules.
- Slot 6: Supports only PCI-based single-width modules.
Grounding
- Grounding Bar: Located at the bottom of the backplane for connecting module shield grounds using size M3 screws. Recommended torque is 4 in/lb (0.45 Nm) maximum.
Module Locations
- Power Supplies: DC power supplies IC695PSDx40 occupy one slot and may be installed in any slot. AC power supplies IC695PSAx40 occupy two slots and cannot be installed in slot 6. IC694 and IC693 power supplies are not compatible with Universal Backplanes.
- I/O and Option Modules: Can be installed in slots 1 through 5. Slot 6 can accommodate only RX3i PCI-based single-width modules.
- CPU Modules: Can be installed anywhere except slot 6. Most CPU modules occupy two slots.
Operating Notes
- Enhanced Mechanical Design: Features such as an upper ledge with a radius on the backplane extrusion and repositioned backplane connectors to improve module-to-backplane engagement and reduce the risk of bent or recessed pins.
- Product Release Information: The IC695CHS007-BA and subsequent versions include mechanical enhancements for improved module engagement.
